can i house a mixed sex group of rats together if the boys are fixed?

i have 2 boys and they are wonderful and sweet i want to get 2 girls and keep them together, in a huge cage, to have the best of both worlds. i would of course get the boys fixed to avoid babies. my question is would the boys fight over the girls or would everyone live happily together? also would fixing the boys who otherwise dont have any problems be cruel?

They should all get along fine. Rats, as you know, are social and usually get along well with each other, though you may want to introduce them first (two cages next to each other or playtime together) just to make sure everyone gets along. Any fighting will most likely be caused by dominance issues and food hoarding rather than over the girls.
No, it's not "cruel" to get them fixed, however it is risky. Anesthesia and surgery, even minor surgery like neutering, has risk involved, and even more so for small animals. Find an experienced vet who has done it before; it will be worth the extra cost/travel.
